Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of Entrepreneurial Infrastructure (EI) on the profitability of Sachet Water Firms (SWFs) in Minna. Design/methodology/approach: This was done through the use of personal interviews for the collection of qualitative data from owners/managers of SWFs. The population of the study included all the 165 SWFs in Minna and the sample size was 10 which was determined by interview saturation point. Thematic analysis was used in analyzing the transcribed audio recordings of the interviews conducted. Findings: Findings revealed that there is an EI deficit in Minna, which has led to increased expenses on the provision of alternative EI by SWFs and has increased their operational costs thereby reducing their profitability. Research limitations/implications: Firstly, with thirty-six states in Nigeria, the findings of this study, covering the Capital of only one of the States (Niger) cannot be generalized for the entire country, rather it must be taken within the context of the region covered. Secondly, only one industry out of many that make up the Nigerian economy is selected for investigation. Thirdly, the researcher was faced with the negative attitude of some respondents who were not willing to participate in the research or provide the needed data for analysis. Lastly, not all the SWFs in Minna were included in the study, only those that have operated for up to three years were included. Future studies can bridge these research gaps by carrying out research in other parts of Nigeria on the same subject matter. Practical implications: Findings of this study would be of help to the existing SMEs in Nigeria, particularly the SWFs in further understanding the complexities of the infrastructural challenges militating against their growth and how to overcome them. Originality/value: This study contributes to the body of knowledge on the nexus between EI and the general performance of SMEs. Paper type: Research paper.

Abstract

Purpose: Proposed course content for each group age is outlined from the early age of a child to the university education system. However, these course contents are a recommendation which indicates the importance of continuity to ensure that the young generations will subsequently not only aware of preserving the environment and its surroundings but, will also work hard to improve the existing situation of the world for a quality environment and a better place to live. Design/methodology/approach: These programs and activities include the awareness and sensitivity to the depleting greens, flora, and fauna, the climatic change due to human activities, and the pollution to soil and groundwater. Humans, animals, and other living things rely greatly on soil, water air, and the sun. Findings: Thus, it is critical to inculcate better understanding and creating a more caring society to ensure the sustainability of the earth for the future existence of mankind. Research limitations/implications: In this paper, a discussion on the need of introducing environmental geotechnics to young generations as early as in the pre-school education is deemed necessary as being conducted by most developed countries. Practical implications: Developing countries such as Malaysia must start now to ensure that existing resources such as its soils and groundwater quality are preserved as the country continue to strive in becoming a developed and modern country by the year 2020. Originality/value: Claim your originality here. Paper type: Research paper.

Abstract

Purpose: This paper discusses what is social perception, social perception aspects of non-verbal communication, attribution, and impression formation, and also some suggestions on how social perception affected cultures. Design/methodology/approach: Describe your method here. This research is a literature study research. The first step was to collect literature relevant to the topic. The second step was data reduction, which is reduced data and chosen the main data. The third step was presented the data and the last step was concluded. Findings: Impaired social perception can have serious social consequences. For example, an adolescent boy might misread a girl’s sympathetic smile as a romantic invitation, and proceed to respond in a sexually offensive manner or a child might misread a peer’s teasing gesture as a threat and react aggressively. In these cases, the socially unsuccessful responses were not a result of inadequate social skills. Rather, they resulted from social “misreading”, that is, impaired social perception. Not surprisingly, the more we get to know someone, the more accurate we are at describing their traits and motives. Even when judging people we know well, however, the shortcuts we use sometimes lead to mistaken impressions. As these examples suggest, effective social perception contributes in important ways to social success, peer acceptance, and friendship. Research limitations/implications: This research is a literature review research. Further empirical research is needed. Practical implications: Results of this research can be used as references in appraisal on social perception about communication and psychology. Originality/value: This paper is original. Paper type: A literature review

Abstract

Purpose: The electric and electronic subject is one of the important subjects in vocational colleges. Admittedly, it is difficult to teach the concept of electrical flow based on the conventional method that relies on explanation using printed materials. The lack of technology-based materials has made it difficult for students to effectively learn such a concept. Against this background, this study was carried out to design, develop, and test a learning application based on Augmented Reality (AR) called RekBen Tube to help technical and vocational school students in learning the concept of electrical flow. Design: The methods used throughout the production of RekBen Tube application technology education learning tools are the ADDIE Model and the TAM Model. Findings: The actual image depiction of the electric current through the circuit is shown to clearly explain the movement of the electric current. Research limitations: This study has developed an application of 10 flip cards for scanning by RekBen Tube app to generate 3D images on each of the different picture cards. Practical implications: Much of the software used to produce this learning tool has been able to attract students to learn the basics of electricity. Paper type: Research Paper.
